With the increase in popularity in the world of gold collecting and buying, it is important to learn how to identify real gold verses fake gold. Making a quick buck off of someone who does not know how to tell real gold from fake is scam that has become increasingly popular. So learn to take the necessary steps to protect yourself! The first myth being, that if you find gold, you can identify it authenticity by a stamp similar to “14k” on the back of it. However, this is no longer true. In fact, it has become very easy for anyone to add this stamp to gold. Making it appear to be the real thing. Another problem with this myth, is that some countries do not abide by adding stamps to their gold. So, it is possible to find real gold without a stamp, simply because it came from another country. Save yourself the trouble, and hang this old myth out to dry, so you do not mistake fake gold for real gold, or even pass up the real thing! You will be glad you did. Next, is another old myth, that if you are out shopping for gold, you should have marks or colorings on your skin left behind from the gold. However, this could be farther from the truth. Real gold does not leave any kind of marking or coloring on your skin. So if you are out shopping, and pick up a coin, then notice funny marking left from it on your hands, you will know to put it down and walk away. You will be able to save yourself the head ache of purchasing fake gold! This is a good myth to remember as you can actually use it for good! Lastly, the quickest and fastest way to tell if the gold you are holding is real or not, is by biting it. Real gold is soft, so when you bite down on it, it will bend. You see, fake gold is made up of several different metals. Which makes it virtually impossible to bite down on, unless of course you have the strength of iron with your teeth! Joking aside, this is a great tip to learn and use when out trying to discern real gold from fake gold.
